    Default Numb hands

I'm suffering from numb hands and hand cramping. Chriopracter says bulging disk in neck is the cause. Anyone eles had this and any remedy??
Chrio says it will just take time, and $$ for him. It hasn't affected riding yet as I can hang my arm at my side and shake it back to life, just annoying.

i had numbness/tingling in my finger tips....and severe pain in my shoulder. went to doc...who referred me to neuro surgeon. this was several years ago. i had a bulging disk or two in neck (C6/C7 i think)...along with narrowing of the canal in the spine where nerves/spinal cord passes thru.

we attacked the problem threefold. keep in mind, my whole left hand was almost numb....ALL THE TIME. and the pain in my left shoulder was HORRENDOUS. it got to the point where i was drinking a lot of margaritas trying to number the almost unbearable pain in my shoulder. oh, also had to go pee more often...as it affected my bladder control somewhat. (lower back problems....depending on vertabrae involved, can affect the OTHER bodily function control....NOT FUN!).

So, for me, they did following:

    1. go to chiropractor once a week for adjustment of neck (still go once very three weeks for maintenance)
    2. got one of those 'torture devices'....as i call it...that you put over a door, sit in a chair, fill it full of water, and put a harness on your neck...and stretch the neck. i did this several times a week for 20-30 minutes. (i bought the device and did it at home. Some folks chose to go to physical therapy and basically do the same thing. BUY IT....do it at home...have it for another day...if needed. It's cheap........)
    3. to get the bulging disk to go down in swelling, and get some IMMEDIATE relief from the severe pain in my shoulder produced by it, i had two of those series of three shots they can give you in your spinal chord. the ones with the BIG needle, where they sedate you and lay you on a table...and they inject you with this long needle. i had IMMEDIATE relief of most the pain in my shoulder with one shot...and some return of feeling in my fingers. With the second shot about a month later, 99% of pain was gone...90% of feeling in hands was back. i never had to have the third shot.

continued Chiro appointments and neck stretching slowly brought me back to ZERO pain in shoulder....99.9% feeling in hands.

to this date, i might stretch my neck once or twice a month...for about 20 minutes with that device i got at medical place that sales crutches and medical stuff (my chiropractor carries them too, but he wanted more). and i go once every three weeks to get my neck 'cracked' at CHiro.

and with that, i've gone for several years with no problems.....and no pain and loss of feeling...and NO need for SURGERY!

    Default Well..................

Mine used to do that, but it was Carpal Tunnel syndrome. Had it fixed.
I used one of those over the door neck 'stretchers' and it nearly did me in. I have had problems with that neck for 35 years. I will never use that or let anyone put my neck in traction again.

Red Valk is correct. c-5, c-6, and c-7 here. Neck hurt and the same symptoms. After about ten years, the "treatments" won't help. Got the problem from whiplash injuries from racing stock cars on the dirt. If it is in the right positions and can be reached from the back, it ain't so bad. They tell me the front entry hits heavier duty muscles and takes longer recovery. BTW. Due to the hand being off I have the same sensation --- permanent carple tunnel. Getting older sucks. Don't ask me how I know.

My dad had carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists to cure numb hands. It helped, but didn't totally fix them. He still has problems from time to time, but is still much better than it was.

10 years ago my right middle three fingers always went to sleep when I was riding the ST1100. When I bought the Valk, the problem went away.
Now my right thumb and wrist hurt all the time and I've noticed that my little fingers on both hands cramp after driving the rig because I have to hold the grips tighter. Arthritis according to the doc.
It takes guts to get old. I'll be 79 this month and I've got the gut to prove it, LOL.
