If you were some how touched or moved by this story and the pictures taken by Elena please take the time to share your thoughts here. Maybe this page will find it's way to Elena and she would be able to comment further on her experiences.
This page is diffrent from lots of others in the net - it's valuable (not for money). In 1986 i was not far from the czernobyl. Sometimes i wish i was the only man on earth - now i know how would it be like. I want to thank Elena for what she has done to show us czernobyl - and tragedy of 1986. Her work showed me another world, which is close to my and i didn't know about. Elena showed me much more than I could ever imagine. Thank You Elena with greetings from Wesola Bartek
While the story is very interesting, there is an obvious inconsistency. If Elena rode into the contaminated zone solo, as she claims, who took her picture where she is shown in the pictures? Subsequently, witnesses have come forward who state they were present with Elena when she took a chartered tour of Chernobyl with her husband, and it was this trip where these photos were taken, not some lone motocycle journey. It is highly unlikely the government is trying to "discredit" her. It is obvious to all how horrible the Chernobyl disaster and those facts are not in dispute. What is disputed it that Elena's story is true. It is most likely not and more likely she has misrepresented herself.
The devastation is overwhelming Your story is fantastic.

Some of us humans don't have the where-with-all to do these things, or perhaps we are not in the right location, but Elena is a gifted person who has the integrity to follow her instincts and is not too inhibited to take the chances of survival. I admire and thank her for her efforts... God Bless

Hello, I read the article and was really shocked. My colleagues also, so we put a link to you at <a href="www.joker.com">www.joker.com</a>.
Hi, we also linked to you at <a href="www.zaedno.de">www.zaedno.de</a>. Great story - and our version is in Bulgarian. I think it was initially written in Bulgarian.
COOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLL SITE
I discovered this as a link to your bike Mr Big Ninja. I am not a big reader but when I started reading this I could not stop. Your comments and pictures are amazing and the saying "a picture paints a thousand words" is very true here. I can not imagine not being able to go home. Excellent Elena. Your dedication is outstanding.
Government officials are trying to discredit her. Story is not a hoax. The official death toll is 30 people and Elena showed a human side of Chernobyl tragedy. No one need this true on her part of the world. Michael Parker .....Hardly a hoax. The photographs are real, the facts are real, the places are real, the issues are real - she just made a facinating story to string them together. Doug

I had also seen her pages, and I felt sad they were taken away from the world. I don't know if she wanted to take them out intentionally or if she just needed the space for another tour. Hope Elena gets to hear how she is making a difference, how she is getting to people

I found the trip facinating. It is a shame what happened in this area, but in some ways it must be a motorcycleists dream. Good roads, and no traffic.
Great story and pictures!!!
This is a neat story. And if it reminds people of just how badly things can go wrong, then does it matter if it's true? I think it does, but that's just me. http://www.neilgaiman.com/journal/2004/05/fraud-exposed-and-true-thing.asp
Thank you for sharing this with all of us. God Bless
Dear Elena, I could not find Your e-mail so, I'm going to write to Your mail address found in Your web page. The story is really exciting and all I can say is - great that we have such people as You who is ready to tell about this catastrophe to other. There is National Rehabilitation Centre (www.nrc.lv) in my city (Jurmala) where people who worked in Chernobyl came for rehabilitation course and still keep on coming because the radion is still sensible. (brakovska@apollo.lv)

Wow, this is probably the most interesting independent webpage, I've ever come across. It's sad but it really makes you think deeply about life itself. It's good to find something worthwhile considering the amount of garbage there is on the internet.
Hi Elena, really amazing what you did!! It gave me an insight of the aftermass of the accident. thank you!!

Great Job.
In my land they use to say that one picture worth as much as 1000 words and I agree. I’m happy when I can find peoples like Elena she is intelligence, brave and sensitive. That makes me hope that our world may have a better future. Elena I’ll try to send you a letter to your PO at Kiev. I would like to ask your permission to mirror your site. Keep up riding to the open roads of your beautiful land and your mind. Be well Nikolas A. Thomas

My hat (or helmet!) goes off to Elena for taking the risk to bring us this very moving account! I know all the inns and outs of the Chornobyl accident, my farther used to work for the government poking Geiger counters in sheep shit and monitoring radiation levels on farmland here in North Wales. I think that anyone who dosen't know about Chornobly should take a reality check and get reading (Elena's account!) It was really moving. I also think that certain individuals who refer to Elena's story should keep their opinions to themselvs 'till they've done the Chornobyl trip themselvs. Ride safe Elena! PS: Elena's site is back online at: www.kiddofspeed.com
So the entire story is a hoax! Come clean! You drove a car through it and added the photo's later!
Great documentation, thanks for sharing.
Very spooky, a testament to man's foolishness, and millions affected. My best wishes to you...
We'll have one of the Pearl Orange Goldwing trikes at the Sturgis Rally. 9:47 p.m. 25 May 04
Very weird and yet moving. My mind felt like zooming thru a real painting of a forgotten town.Nice.Very nice.
Very moving. The uncertianty of life screams forth from those "still" shots. Elana stay safe.
just one more story from the happiest hutmenets (unfortunately only in Hungarian): http://web.axelero.hu/kesz/jel/03_02/tuleles.html
I was just about that time in the cinema, enjoying Stalker (directed by Andrej Tarkovszkij, upon the story of Sztrugackij). And on the 1st of May, of course it was compulsory to demonstrate and to wave to Andropov & Kádár János! My wife's niece was died by cancer in her 26th year....
here is link from Elena's motorcycle forum http://www.zx1112.bigbikeworld.com/forum/topic.asp?id=12226
I was looking at some pictures on motorcycle web site & ran across this by accident. I enjoyed reading your posting & pictures. I am a fireman here in the USA. Thank you for sharing. Be safe !
I be in contact Elena, she is not fraud. Look at pictures. She not married . I not know dizzy but that good name to him maybe, or may be liarboy.
ELENA IS MEMBER OF BIKER CLUBS IN KIEV AND EVERYONE KNOW SHE IS NOT MARRIED. DIZZY IS LYING, PERHAPS ONE OF THOSE WEIRDOS WHO HAPPY WHEN THEY PUT SOMEONE DOWN.
Elena, ride safe and be happy. You are truly an inspiring young girl. I respect you very much. Good Luck, Jim Magee jmag700@yahoo.com
Unfortunately for all here who are moved and touched, Elena is a fraud. She did not and does not ride a motorcycle in the Chernobyl zone. That is banned by law. She took a standard Chernobyl tour, which have become quite common now, in a car with her husband and a friend. She did not take most of the pictures that are on the site, she did not risk her life and did not encounter radiation levels in excess of those you would get from a transatlantic plane ride. I know all about Elena's fictional journey and it is yet another lesson in why you can't believe everything you see and read. (That would, of course, include this message.)
That is very interesting site and I hope you'll provide more pictures for us in the future and how long you are going to stay there? Regards.
Thank You very much Elena. This was a wonderful and insightful trip for me. Your English is very good for not being your first language -- I understood all you said.
WOW! Thank you for your story!
Wow, it means so much more when you realize how it effected everyday things and people
your passion and fervor for biking and your country is to be applauded! I am most grateful for your posting of your story and travels. Please let us have more! Best Regards! Jw
Excellent story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very interesting. What a great story and a clever biker !
Very interesting and sad reading; maybe we will meet some day, and fight against nuclear power and go for a motorcycle ride someplace more lively.
I ride a Harley--same one for the past 25 years--and found your pictures and your story amazing. Thank you for sharing. Dana
You a re either very brave or very stupid. I prefer to think of you as brave as I would not have the stones to go there even in a lead lined tank! Good luck to you ina ll you do...Alec
Wow Elena - you are a brave woman. Thanks to you, the story is at the forefront of memory.....let's hope it never happens again!
This site is cool. the lady has got real guts going in the ghost town. I wish I could go there to experience the spookiness and peacefulness of this tragic place. thanks to Elena for sharing this info with the world and thanks to the person who mirrored the site. CHEERS!
Firstly many thanks for mirroring her site. She is a remarkable woman to risk so much in informing the rest of the world of the consequences of such a disaster. Excellent reportage. The world needs the likes of Elena.
When will man realize that he is just the custodian of this wonderful planet, not the owner, and stop the wanton destruction. Thank you Elena for having the courage to show the rest of the world what Armageddon looks like. May your God keep you safe, may you continue to ride the highways.
My heart and prayers go out to the victims.
Es muy triste...
Thank you.
Liebe Elena! Vielen Dank für deinen Mut, diese Zeitdokumente ins Netz zu stellen. Damit die Menschheit niemals vergisst, mit welchen Mächten sie es tun hat = Atomkraft! Thank you very much! Live long and prosper!
Unbelievable. All for the name of progress. I hope we learned something from this, so it never happens again, ever.
Incredible story you should win an award...I read the story when it was the original...thanks guys for putting it out again....Elena you are an amazing woman and a tribute to all us motorcyclists everywhere..
Elena, your site was very much appreciated. I'm sorry you had to take it down. I had no idea of the magnitude of this disaster. You are a very brave woman. Thank you for sharing!!! Best wishes and stay safe.
Thank you for mirroring her site. As you must have predicted, she is unable to keep it up. This is something the world needs to see.
Elena's work is a wonderful gift of knowledge of her ride, the history of Chernobyl and her thoughts while traveling through the Ghost Town's region. Elena, congratulations and thanks. I'm most glad your work has been saved. I wish you a most happy and prosperous life! Larry
I was very touched. I think we can't imagine what kind of horror happened there and hove many lives stopped or been dramatically changed. Give you to start thinking of perception of safety we have (then or these days) regardless, if this is true or not. Thanks for this photo reportage and sharing this to others.
Great Story, Great Site !!!! Thanks....
I find this site excellent, and more informative than some documentaries on Černobilj, because it shows other side of the disaster, other than official one. Looking forward to something new, perhaps?
Thanks for taking the time to share this story with us. Be safe, and keep up the great work.
April 25, 2004 Thank you Elena, for sharing this story and the photos of Chernobyl, it was a terrible time.
thanks
Elena, Thank you for sharing the Truth with all of us. I have made a special into for your site at: http://www.martin.mesanetworks.net/Elena/index.html
As a fellow biker I'd have admired you just for riding the Ninja but you're an extra 3 or 4 dimensions on - if it wasn't for fear of glowing afterwards I'd hug you! Your picture and words have brought this tragedy home for the first time in a very eerie way.
Wake up and see what's going on around you! I hope all you people who didn't know about Chernobyl were too young to know. Cos there's no other reason for not knowing.
These photos of yours and your site really makes you think about man and the potential for disastrous happenings around the world. This is only ONE of the many things that can go wrong in the world, when big companies are more interested in Money, profits, and corruption, and many other works of evil take place of human compassion and safety. God keep us all safe. AMEN!
I'm embarrassed about how little I knew of this tragedy. Your images are both beautiful and arresting. Have you thought about publishing in book form? The way you explain the story of the people affected by the disaster is very moving.
This is something terrible happened to all the people. Pompeii is the correct word to be used for the Ghost Town. Hardly few ppl must be know about this in my country. This must come to light and ppl should realize what happen when ya play with Nuclear radiation. May the God (Jesus Christ) of the Past, Present and Future be with them.
Elena, Thank you for sharing such a tragic and moving view of what happened so many years ago. You are a brave woman - you are a hero - God Bless you in your comings and goings through your rides and keep you safe. Thank you. Marla
More information on this disaster than I ever knew.
Chilling stories and photos. Thank you for showing this to us.
Thanks for your writings and photographs. You have brought to me information that I never saw before. Thank you for that. Be careful in those areas and continue to ride safe.
I was touched by the story would like to hear more. hedgehorn@yahoo.com
I live in Estonia, which was under soviet Union reign on that time. Men was taken as a "volunteer" to go and clean up the mess in Tšernobyl. MY parents didn't open up, when the soldiers came at our door. Many did though...and they were brought back in tin caskets and their relatives were not allowed to open them, because their bodies were to mutated....
Very deep and moving, I remember hearing f the accident at Chernobyl when I was 6, and when I was 9 I saw a special on it, it really moved me, from the eerie silence of the city to the ironic statue of Prometheus, I read and lived that ride through your words. Very touching, you're brave and very amazing to have done what you've done, hats off to you, Elena, Your photographs are some of the most interesting, and haunting I've ever seen, the entire site is captivating and amazing, I, like so many others would like to thank you for bringing it to us. ~Vaughn F. Saball, A.K.A. WillowFox WillowFox_@hotmail.com
This is the most amazing story I have ever read. Elena should be thanked by everyone who reads it.
Wow, Elena thank you for the journey through time. Sad to see the devastation that can occur from a nuclear calamity. I wish you well and never stop ridding.
This is an unbelievable adventure. That's all I can say.
Awesome, but very heartbreaking. We all know somebody that has lost property due to tornadoes, hurricanes, fire or floods, but to not be able to ever return to the place you grew up and lived is unimaginable! Thanks for the insight. Lonnie
WOW, Elena, I never imagined what took place, without your pictures, the news agencies , didn't show this much information, you showed me what I never knew, I love your sport bike ninja, your a good soul, i ride also, thanks for a great site
Unfortunately the reality of this and other disasters like it in a country where , in my lifetime , nothing of this magnitude has occurred is only reality as long as the media runs it and then falls between the cracks as everyday life takes over and a new headline breaks. Hopefully I will never have to come as close as you to this reality. As with everything , humanity has a life span and ,as you described, mother earth is repairing herself and will eventually heal with evolution. The closest thing I have seen here is the aftermath of a volcano eruption. The feeling of vacancy of life is definitely eerie. I wish you well on your future rides and thank you for this story. Keep the batteries in your meter charged. Bill
THANK YOU ELENA, FOR SHARING. YOU ARE VERY COURAGEOUS. STAY WELL AND, ALWAYS SAFE RIDING.
Thank you Elena for putting your story out there. I read your web page a few weeks ago. Very moving! I working in nuclear power in the US Navy and was amazed at the radiation levels you encountered. I would still love to make that same ride.
Thanks.
What a great story. I would love to see a show made of her story by SPEED or CORBINS RIDE-ON or some other news type program like 60 MINUTES.
Hauntingly beautiful. Wow.
Chilling. Scary. I first came upon this site some time ago and then it was "under construction" for a few weeks and off line. Amazing. - Ed
Truly one of the most striking web sites I have ever visited. For those of us in North America who were born after WW II, September 11, 2001 is the date that made the world change dramatically. In so many ways it pales in comparison to the dramatic significance of that day in 1986 for the tens of thousands of victims of the Chernobyl disaster. It's also depressing that we here know so much about the facts of September ii and their geopolitical ramifications but so little about those of Chernobyl. Thanks, Elena.
hiy guys.... just live to ride, ride to live right?
HI y'all Great site! ride safe.
I was very touched.
It's a great story, and the pics really add to the details. Be safe, and keep up the great work.
Thank you Elena for showing what happened and at some risk to yourself. It reminds me of Neville Shutes "On the Beach" only this is real. Supposedly this couldn't happen here as USA's nuclear reactors are of a different design. (maybe)
Great story. What a terrible thing. I did not realize the size of the dead zone.
Elena, thank you for the thoughtful story told through your lens and captions. It is important to know what has happened to this area and some of it's people.
very sobering...please bring more pictures...very moving
These photos are truly amazing. I feel like I have lost a great many friends. this brings far away events up close and personal. thank you. C.
WOW! Fascinating. I have followed the C-disaster since it occurred. This information has added a lot of information to my existing knowledge. Icefire883@juno.com PS I am a forensic psychologist [retired] here in the USA.
When you spoke of the fishing trip and not being able come home, for those of us who ride overnight that hits close to home. We think that could never happen in the USA (3 mile island) Very scary!
Quite haunting, and at the same time fascinating. You have quite a good eye for photography - each one really told a story. Thank you for bringing us there.
I can't imagine the feeling of a land with no people with all the buildings standing in the Past. Sad. Great Job with the Pictures and I can understand the need to proceed even with the Radiation.
Thank you for showing us all the pictures of your journey. You have courage, I applaude you.
This is very sad. About 15 years ago, I traveled some of old Route 66 (when I could find it) from Mesa, Arizona. I would stop and look at the old cafe's, gas stations, etc. and wonder about the people that lived there and ran the businesses, and the patrons that stopped by. I will still do that in my travels when I see an old farm house or store. These places were abandoned because of economic problems, and could someday be put back into use. The area around Chernobyl will be uninhabited for centuries, and that makes it very sad. I can understand the old timers not wanting to leave; where would they go. Thanks, Elena, for a very touching story and pictures.
Elena, The story that your pictures tell is incredible. I too am a motorcycle rider and enjoy the country, and mountain roads of S.Carolina, N.Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. I remember when this tragedy happened and thought about it at the time but never gave it much thought after the news media stopped talking about it. It must have really been astonishing to have lived it for the people of Ghost town. It must be very eerie for you to be there with no life nearby. Thanks for taking the time to educate us about this great tragedy. I enjoyed it a lot.
I was in Istanbul when this tragedy revealed to the world first time. We were imagining that it must be horrible but seeing it in your photos makes it real. Thanks for bringing this to the attention of others around the world.
Very interesting. A different twist to a ride on a motorcycle. Thanks for the link Lamont. Ron
Thank you for posting these photos and the stories of your travels. It is something that I would never get to see, and serves as a reminder of how bad things could be. Having lived through the Three Mile Island nuclear accident in 1979 in Pennsylvania, it also reminds me of how close my hometown of Harrisburg PA got to being in this same condition. Thanks again for the photos...I'll be passing this on to folks I know...
4/1/04 Very moving. What kind of effect does this have on her health?
what a great story from a good looking woman
I read this a few weeks ago and am glad LaMont found it again. I can't imagine the feeling you must have as you drive through that city. Just a small example of what could happen anywhere in the world. Just reading her story and viewing the pictures is enough to make me wonder how much of a great discovery neuclear power really is.
I never realized the devastation that happened there. Thanks for sharing your experiences so that other's may benefit.
I can't even imagine what that must be like. Thanks for taking the time to share this story with us.
Elena - It is hard to imagine the devastation, your pictures really do show "it". Thanks for the story and pictures, keep enjoying the "ride".
Great story of life and how quickly it can be taken. Very thought provoking. It's hard to imagine what it must be like to be there in all that. Thank you for taking the time to share this with the world.
Thank you...Your inspiration and soul are forever etched into my heart... You have risked so much to share a story that must be told and passed on to others.
