Man I don't know how it happened but I did what most cars do to bikes. :( I made a left right in front of a car doing about 50 mph. I was behind a truck at a stop sign at a T- intersection and the truck pulled out and made a left, I rolled forward and looked right and then looked left and started to pull out when all of the sudden I see this car skidding toward me at a very hi rate of speed. At first I didn't know what to do but I saw he was going to his right so just before he hit me I gave it some gas and got out of the way. The guy was able to skid into the road I just pulled out of but that is not where he wanted to go. :? I felt like such an idiot. It was my fault and I can honestly say I never saw him.

So I guess God is not done with me yet because if he was I would have be toast yesterday. That was a pretty good wakeup call for me.

Thank God for Guardian Angels.

One of my friends, Steve, wrecked Saturday when he was hit by a car. He was real lucky in that it was a slow hit. Both had some reaction time but his was slowed by a bit of beer during a poker run. Bruised leg and some minor bike damage was all.

Guardian Angel Must Have been with You Both 8)

It Happens, get complacent waiting for traffic to clear, zone in on making the turn, develop tunnel vision and then zone out on reality. :o4:

Glad You made it w/o a scratch and Steve will be OK

Glad you made it through ok. I'm sure we've all been there/done that in some form or another. You just can't be too careful!!!

Was your Guardian Angel looking out for ya'll, or did you use up one of your 9 lives.

Whichever, be cool and check both ways the 2nd and 3rd time before ya'll pull out......

I've noticed with age, I'm not reacting or seeing everything anymore like I used to a few years ago..

Dat's always an embarrassing thing.

Funny you should say that RJ. I was wearing my full face helmet and one of the first things I thought about is I really don't have the side to side view as I do with a 3/4 or 1/2 helmet. Maybe I just need to turn my head more but I normally look both way several times. I think I just didn't see the car, maybe because of the helmet. :(

I had a similar close call last fall. I keep it in my memory at all intersections now!

Glad you're "unscathed", Bag

Man I sure am glad God isn't finished with you yet!! All these plans we have made for the next few weeks and you could have blown our rides all out!!! BE CAREFUL!!! None of us want to get together for a hospital visit or worse...

sure glad the outcome was good.
on any given day, just a split second could be the difference between "being toast" and living to ride another day.
I know last summer I saw 2 accidents and heard of a 3rd in a weeks time.
On two of the accidents the rider was killed.
I seriously thought of hanging up my keys and chilling out until the accident season was over. Sure made me question what I was doing. Of course, the next day I'm out riding again.
Be safe out there guys and gals

Glad you are OK! I did the same thing once, but the car was in a dip in the road and I didn't see him till I pulled out. It wasn't as close of a call as what yours was, but I did cause him to hit his brakes. After that incident, I started taking a different route home when I'm on the bike.

Jeez Lamont  glad it worked out OK. I am in the habit when something is bothering me to go for a ride ... it helps me mellow and helps me think. It's probably not the best place to be when your "thinking" - one mistake and :(

No more "chicken" with cars on the bike ... that's what the truck is for! :D (just kidding - no more chicken at all)

Dude. Glad you made it ok. Being complacent and making such errors is my territory. Not only is God not through with you, we ain't either. Be careful, bro. If you want to buy a farm, next time, just buy the place next door.

I knew something was on your mind when we were talking, why didn't you tell me about that one. Definitely been there done that!!!!! Except I wasn't quite as lucky. This happened about 5 years ago, there was a truck in front of me, turning right, and a car pulling out from the road where the truck was going. The car pulled out just as the truck turned, then the truck stopped in the middle of the turn. I manage to slide in between the car and truck, WOW that close! Just as I thought I had made it, a second truck coming from the same road appeared DIRECTLY in front of me. I had two options hit and fly over the hood or tuck and roll. Tuck and roll option worked, when it was all done I laid at the back of the truck with a bruised shoulder and some minor damage in the neck from the snap. The helmet, but what can I say, I am the freak when it comes to things like that. :a13:
Glad to hear you are OK and got your wake up call.

NOOO! Don't buy any farms . . . don't I remember that you have a farm already? You don't need another one . . .

Glad it worked out ok.

How's your friend BTW? The construction accident?

Wow, that was a close one. At least you had the presence of mind to get on the gas and avoid the car. Glad you're safe bro, we all make mistakes and I've made a few myself for sure. Sometimes those close calls can be a good thing. Keeps us from getting complacent.

I think it is in 1 Samuel 20:3 where David says to Jonathan "there is but a step between me and death." Anyway, I'm glad you were safe.

Thats what good about having all that engine. Its better that you don't have to use the power for that. Glad you made it through all right.

Lamont,

Thank God you're okay. Don't feel bad. I did the same thing last year while some of us from the NGMC were doing the Natchez Trace. I just followed the group on a left turn in front of a semi. My attention was on the rider ahead instead of the road where it should have been. Close call.

Dood!... been away for a while and come back to see THIS!...

I think you should sell that Hoss and get yerself one of those motorized scooters... make it electric too, not gas!... you are probably havin a tough time seein the gas pump and gettin the nozzle in that gas tank filler hole.... huh... now I'm thinkin yer gonna electrocute yerself while tryin to plug in the electric cord too.... heck, forget about the electric scooter.. needs to be a manual scooter... maybe you can splurge and get one of those OC Chopper bicycles, but thats too close a look to the hoss... so I'd stick with the scooter if'n I were you.... ( big ol toofy grin)

Sorry aboot gittin bok too ya leet mon, It's amazing how quick things happen, if you just, for 1 split second, let your mind wander. I was coming home Wednesday evening on April 28, about 3 miles from my house, going through a small residential area, a semi-back road. I came over a small incline, and watched this lady pull out of a side road. She had to go left or right, because there was only a house in front of her, no driveway. I slowed down, to almost a crawl, when she finally looked right, saw me, and with her cell phone in her hands, turned her steering wheel right, to get out of there. If I had just assumed she would be turning, I would have slammed into her. Lamont, take it easy. Everybody here at this site respects & needs you. I don't want to go to no more wakes or funerals. P.S. - Let's lobby to make it illegal to use cell phones when behind the wheel of a vehicle.
