The alternator on the valk went out on my way to Inzane and i had to leave it a shop near the border. There were no stock alternators readily availale in Canad so the shop recommended picking up the Kuryakyn compu fire GL1500 alternator while in the US, which I did and dropped off to them on my way back from Inzane. I am on my way today to pick up the bike, but the shop tells me to make it fit they had to lossen some frame bolts and that my alt cover will no longer fit...so basically the alternator is exposed and hanging out the side of the bike...not a good look! :no1::no1: Does anyone know whether these alternators can be made to fit the valk properly? I have heard the GW alternators can be made to fit by turning them somehow...is this the same sort of situation and the shop just doesn't know how. It's being suggested I get a new alt cover fabricated...but I never would have bought this alternator (their suggestion) if I knew I would have this problem. Any help this morning before I get to the shop is greatly appreciated!

'97 Goldwing Aspencade
Part # is 31100-MT2-015
"The terminal & plastic insulator are different where you connect the alternator battery wire. You have to take off the capacitor that is mounted on the Gold Wing alternator and rotate the front housing to match the holes from the Valkyrie model so that it will fit."
BTW it costs much less than the one on the Valk.

This is the alternator part no. to replace the one on the Valk.

This will work. I helped a friend do this on his Interstate after a rebuild on his old one failed. You take the three bolts out that hold the cases together and rotate it 120 degree's and make it look like the Valk alternator. If I remember correctly, you bump the front cover to get it loose and rotate it after removing the long screws. Put them back in and install. Worked perfect and was quite a bit less expensive than the Valk alt.
Hope this information isn't too late.

Unfortunately, the compuwire won't fit with the cover and requires a GW battery which will need some mods under the seat. Right now, 1 am awaiting response from the shop as to what they are prepared to do, given that this was bought on their recommendation and neither of these issues were mentioned, despite the fact they had supposedly installed the same alternator on several other valks...so far, it blew out all my lights on the way home.

Electrical problem now on the Valk. I guess it wants to compete with your HD? :D

Buzz me tonight if your free man. It's been a while and we've played plenty of phone tag.
