 Just got word that Tom Wright had an accident this weekend while returning home from a ride in north GA. Many of you know Tom from the VOA's 2003 Ride-In where he worked tirelessly and always with a smile on his face as the Vendor Liason. Tom also serves as the head of the VOA's GA Chapter and has led rides at all of the Southeastern Gathering of the Valkyries in Helen GA. Tom and his wife Sondra (Sam) were returning home from a short ride up to North GA and were close to home. Traveling on a 4 lane road, a car switched lanes without looking and immediately hit Tom & Sandra. Tom said the move was so sudden and unexpected, he didn't even have time to hit his air horn.
They went down on their left side. Tom suffered a broken ankle (the bike landed on it), a wrenched left knee and some jammed fingers on his left hand (Tom's left handed). Sondra doesn't have any broken bones but is really sore from the spill and may have a pulled groin muscle. Tom indicated the women driver did not appear to have either a drivers license or insurance. She got out of her vehicle came over to where they were laying and said, "I sorry, I didn't see you". Tom, (I am sure with somewhat of a chuckle) told her, "I hope you have insurance." Her response was "Guess what, you're f****d." Tom related that she then had to use a pay phone to contact her boyfriend who was in jail. :x
Tom will be spending the day trying to find out where the Police had his bike hauled off to and all those things. Fortunately, their injuries weren't more extensive or they weren't hit by other cars when they went down.
I know you join me in wishing Tom & Sondra a fast and complete recovery! If you want to send Tom a note, his e-mail address is wrights2@mindspring.com
Tom, keep smiling and heal quickly! Can't keep a good man (and woman) down!
