Ok I was getting really tired of my fenders getting beat up on my bikes...
Chip paint. And rock dings...
I don't like the quilted guards ... I thought of something in metal (to heavy)
Then I thought of something in leather ... Nope will have to drill in the fenders...
So I thought I would try Herculiner !!
Most people told me .... You're not going to like it...
But hey I'm not the average person...
So I felt I'll try this stuff... And after all if I don't like it .. I know a body shop that can repaint it ....Not 3 miles up the road from me...
But I LOVE it !!!! I like the Look... It makes TheBlack look tuff !!!
Here is the finished work...

A link to all the photos of the work ...

I have taken it on about a 200 mile test run.. http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/ricky.gif
And not 1 ding or chip !!!!
Lots of bugs... I think I'll do my other Valk ~TheBeast ,with the same stuff...
The prep work was easy...The taping off was a little changeling to match both fenders... http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/Augie.gif
A lot of measuring.. Showed the FenderMender At the Body shop he and his workers said I did a Great job...
LOL.. Asked if I wanted to work for them http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/ImaPoser.gif
As I said the hardest part was that first sanding .....
It is so hard to sand shiny paint on purpose.. http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/Jack.gif
More details...
bought the kit ( cost $99 )...That came with a Gal. of Herculiner..
A stipple roller w/2 sleeves... And the a scratch pad... brush(I didn't use)
I started with using a 80 grit ... And would keep wiping down with Acetone in between a full sand down... Then I went to the pad that came in the kit...
Wiped it down again till I thought it was roughened up good... And wiped it down again...
You don't have to get the paint off.. But you do have to get the semi loose chips out and get all the gloss out... And rough !!
I did use chem gloves as recommended... And they recommend using the stirrer that you use on a drill... That was a good suggestion as the little rubber particles are thick at the bottom... But once they are stirred up really well a wooden stirrer worked well in between the coats... I waited the 3-5 hours in between coats... It bonds to itself , so if you do get a chip they say touch up repair is easy...
I liked the roller... But the product does say you can spray or brush...
But I wanted good coats.. And I felt a roller was the right choice for this job...
I was getting so in to the work , and had chem gloves on .. Didn't want to touch camera as I worked .... And just dang forgot...http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/ne_nau.gif
Also have plenty left... even after doing 3 coats on that moto...
My other moto is in worse shape on the fenders.. as it has a lot of miles on ithttp://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/ricky.gif ...
When I start that job... I'll try to get Highbinder to take a few photos ...
But as I said it really was easy to do... And fun.... Watching the layers get thicker... http://s3.amazonaws.com/advrider/thumb.gif
