Just wondering who has replaced their stock honda windsheild with Clearsheild model...I understand they are 2 inches wider and you can get them tinted and with an airvent...is it a light smoke tint...would it look right on my bike? Anyone got a pic? I would welcome any comments on the quality, impact of the size difference and overall value fom anyone in the know...also which size is the same size as the stock shield (there are 3 height sizes apparently). And finally, is the air vent model worth looking at.
You can tell where my head is at these days during these sub zero temps!

Hi Pibit
I replaced my Hondaline windsheild with a Clearview. It uses the original Hondaline hardware. I really can't speak for the height as I sawed off 3 inches of the height of the original windshield and I ordered the Clearview windshield with the new height. It has the vent in it and I believe that it makes a difference on the buffeting and has more cooling effect when it's hot. The increased thickness of the Clearview cuts down some buffeting because it doesn't flex as much as the Hondaline. In summation, I would buy the Clearview again but it didn't make as much of a difference as I thought it would. By the way, it fit the Hondaline hardware with no problem.

I reread your letter and I left off some of your questions.. Mine is not tinted.
I don't really know if it's wider and I can't measure it right now (The valk is stored in the shed with snow). I do have the two driving lights from Big Bikes mounted on the windshield and it looks good. Overall, I'm satisfied with it.

...Last question..do you like the look of the airvent...is it unobtrusive enough that you forget it's there?
Thanks

to mention it to get the air vent position adjusted.
I have pics of a Valk with the air vent I may send you , but it has a Hoppe fairing too so the impression is different. The only drawback I was told is the cleaning of the air vent.

The air vent takes extra time to clean but no problem. I like the appearence of it but my Valk will never be a showbike.
If I can get the shed doors open today (snow), I will post a picture of the windshield.

If, you get a new windshield and get the vent, get a piece of white screen door screen and put it in the vent. The vent comes apart real easy, lay the screen on the back side of the front cover of the vent, cut it to match the cover of the vent and put it back together. I also like the vent to circulate air in the summer time behind the shield.
I had 2 instances with my vent on the Gold Wing. 1, I was in Canada following a small truck in traffic. We were on a fresh asphalt road. A piece of asphalt, the size or a pencil eraser came thru the hole and stuck to my lip. Dang did it burn before I got it off.
2nd time I hit a Bumblee Bee about 65, he came thru the vent, madder than an old wet hen and went down my shirt..... Yep, you guessed it, he stung me about 4 times before I smashed his guts all over my belly.
Shortly after that is when I came up with the idea of using screen door screen to stop that stuff coming thru. The vent will still close when needed...

Glad to be of help, PIBIT and RJ, you have to be real careful with 65 year old bumblebees, they get grouchy. By the way, I'll try that screen thing on the air vent. I was really surprized at what comes through it.
His stinger was seperated from his worthless body after I squished him.
We had to pull the stinger from my belly. To this day, that is a VERY VERY tender spot..... and it looks like it has a freckle there....
I've had em go up my sleeve and do less damage than this old boy did. He was mad. I suppose it I got hit in the head doing about 65, I'd be p!ssed off also.
PIBIT, you and Nape try to stay warm up there in the North country, eh. Me, I'm stayin in the house till it get above ZERO.

PIBSTER,
I'm a little late responding to your question, but I got the Clearview replacement last summer. You won't believe how much better things look through a new windshield. The quality is as good or perhaps better than the OEM. It's more rigid for one thing. If you were happy with your stocker, I'd suggest ordering the same dimensions for the replacement.
Now, regarding the vent; it's a matter of taste, of course, but you'll notice that most vented windshields are on Goldwings. That said, I think you'll take my meaning  .
