Just got power to the neighborhood last night.....5 days without. About 50% of Baton Rouge is still without power, and outlying areas (most) are still out too. Could be 3-6 weeks for some outlying areas. They are hoping to get power restored to Baton Rouge in the next few days to 15 days. Gas lines are long (but NO shortage of gas) as people get gas since many stations are still without power. Food lines are long as they restock and get supplies in here. Not sure about other cities around here.

My home generator system saved us. But, for those of you who know I dislike any kind of mechanical work will get a laugh here. My system had run for 2.5 days straight. I was proud of it. Then, one night (0430 in the am) the thing quit....it got quiet, my wife said, "what happened"....as I jumped out of bed and said, "I DON'T KNOW". Well, went to check the system and saw a red light........LOW OIL!!!! Amazing....these things have oil in them :a13: ...HA! I found a quart, put it in, and crank her up again. Then each day (since I'm now educated about these things  ) I check the oil and put more. Today, since it is off and we have power, I actually changed the oil, filter, and did a little maintenance. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE MAINTENANCE FREE MACHINES?????

Now, we are eyeing Hurricane Ike........not something any of us want to see.

Hope everyone in the path of Hanna Montana fairs well. Take care and keep your head down.

Jack, glad to hear you're OK. How's Curb Rider doing?
I talked to my cousin in Thibodaux and he said his house didn't have any damage but his barn is gone. I don't know if they go their power back yet.

Curb Rider - no damage, but still without power....and it will be that way for a week to 3. He lost a lot of trees....had 5 down across his driveway. Had to cut trees all day Tuesday just to get out to the road. One big one behind his house fell.....thank goodness it fell towards the pond, and not the house.

Glad you made it through and have power now.... It's funny how somethings
need oil.... lol...... Think Leemont found that out on his m109....

You crack me up Jack. OIL, what OIL. Glad it was that simple. Hope Gary gets power soon. Looking ahead at Ike, it may be a good thing you did the maintenance on the generator.
Reminds me of our trip home from Maggie Valley. We stopped at a truck stop to eat lunch and cranked the generator in the RV to microwave something. It ran for about 30 seconds and shut down.....red light flickers a few times. Oh well we ate cold food. Got home and put GAS in the tank and it cranked up and ran fine.
