What do you guys do to keep your feet warm when your riding in 40 degrees or below? My boots are too small to get extra socks on. :( Maybe I need some winter riding boots.

for really cold weather I have the Gerbing socks.
But most of the time I wear my Alpinestar Goretex lines boots.
I was amazed at how much warmer they were than conventional leather boots. The Goretex really keeps the wind out. I couldn't believe the difference.
I'm sold on them.

Mine are Field & Stream rubber lined boots I got at a Farmers Supply store. Now we have a Caelbo (sp) store and when I was in there yesterday, I was like a kid in a candy store. WOW......

I gave up on leather shoes/boots quite awhile back, like 5 or 6 years ago.......

Not sure if you have room in your boots, but you can try those little heater packs that you activate and put in your shoes or gloves. They make small ones for boots.......work for ice fishing up here....do stay warm for a while. Can also try those battery operated socks....bit of a hassle, but they do work.

Leather boots with 2000 grams of Thinsulate and insulated socks. Now if I can figure a way to get rid of the snow and ice. DAYTONA HERE WE COME!!!

BRO..
YOU KNOW I WORK IN 0 to -5 BELOW EVERYDAY (no wind)..WE FURNISH INSULATED BOOTS....BUT I PERSONNALLY WEAR A PAIR OF HERMAN SURVIVERS (even though they are not Insulated) they keep my feet toasty while I'm in the Warehouse Freezers.Depending my daily activity, SOME DAYS my socks are WET from sweat, at the end of the Day.....WALMART $39.99, PLUS they are Water Proof. If memory SERVES Me Correctly, I think Patriot is a Herman Surviver BELIEVER...

Go online to Cabella's or Bass Pro shops and get 800 + grams of thinsulate and goretex 12-14 " boots and you won't believe how warm they can be. I rode home from bike week 2 years ago in 20 degree or below weather and my feet never did get cold. Wear moisture wicking liners under wool/thinsulate blend socks and you can't go wrong. :)

Hockey players wear thin or no socks on the ice. I wear thin nylon socks and find with the "wiggle room" I have in my boots my feet stay warmer than when I tried heavy socks or two pairs. The air between the thin socks and the boot acts as an insulater and even if your feet get cool they don't have that "My feet are numb and I gotta go home" cold. I am on my third winter of using the thin socks and this method works well for forties and high thirty degree temps. Below that my feet start getting cold after an hour or so.

PS...when your feet feel a little on the cold side wiggle your toes (no joke) and your feet feel warmer with the increased circulation.

I don't seem to have any trouble keeping my feet warm down to about 40 degrees. Maybe the Baker Air wings lowers help. The Valk puts out a lot of heat on my feet (poet?)
However below 40, I wear a pair of commercial "Mickey Mouse" boots. They're 50 years old but still work great. However, you have to be prepared to wring out your socks and have your feet look like wrinkled prunes when you take them off.
RJ remembers the "Mickey Mouse" boots, right RJ?

Lamont,

I use the Gerbings, they work well plus you don't have to continuously buy the little heat packs.

I know the wires are a mess but if you break down and get the whole outfit it all wires together and you'll be toasty in 20 degree weather.

other wise buy the socks and run the wires up your pants. I use a set of propolene socks (very thin) as a moisture wick... under the gerbings.

With out this outfit, Las Vegas would have been a no show.

Lamont. I wear hi-tec magnum shield combat style boots in the winter. They are thinsolate lined (400 g), waterproof, etc. I have worn them to 8 below and my feet did not get cold with only a pair of cotton socks. Of course I am only riding 30 miles to work. I don't know about longer trips. try link

Polypropelene socks under a pair of regular cotton socks. They are very thin but wick away moisture and keep my feet warm.

With that big old heat generating V-8, you could probably tie into the cooling system and run a couple of lines to each boot, supply and return and wear water proof socks to keep your feet dry

Why don't you just have little "extension" radiators to put in front of your feet in the winter dude. :a13: or maybe some extra radiator hose to wrap around the foot pegs :a13: Actually I use the real thin socks like Michael P and then wear regular socks over them, they really do work and wick away the moisture from your skin. Quickest, cheapest, way out.

What size shoes do you wear. I just happen to have a brand new set of Mickey Mouse boots. They are extreme cold weather boots. If they'll fit you I send them to you, I don't get into too much cold weather here in Ca. And even on the ride to Alaska last year, I didn't use the extreme boots.

I will agree that Micky Mouse Boots are WARM ... best cold weather boot out there. I use mine while ice fishing, hunting, riding ATV in winter etc etc. I don't see how anybody could use them to ride a motorcycle though

Here are a couple pictures what they look like Lamont ... your a CA guy - your not supposed to know what they are! :D The military uses them as jump boots in extreme climate (used to anyway :?: ) the valve on the side is used to inflate the boot.

The ones I have do not have the air valve, but other than that they are pretty much the same. I was trying to attach a couple of pictures, but haven't figured out how to do that. The boots are 9W so don't think they will do you much good. If some one can use them I will gladly send them along. As for riding a scoot in them, good luck, they are pretty wierd to wear as they are almost 3-1/4" high at the toe and about 4" wide at the toe, they do taper a little but not too much. Pretty hard to get under your shifter. I wore them for a VERY short time during the last of the red hot missions that I would rather not get into as it sure in hell wasn't red hot and other than being miserable as hell it didn't account for much.

Reelay is right. I have worn the same boots for years. Even some of our ATV riding buddies wear the Hermans for offroad.I had a little problem with my foot sliding on wet pavement though. Since I last saw Reelay, I have gone to the Oxtar riding boots. They are a little pricey, but they are insulated with a gortex booty that makes them waterproof. They also just zip on and off, and have a nonslip sole. GREAT boot!!!
