I live only a few hours from the Gap and I have not ridden this road in 3 years. Why ? Riding this road was the most 'danger' I ever felt when I was on a bike. Riding (to me) is not fun if you have to worry about 'wanna-be racers' flying towards you in hairpin curves. On this road, I felt the need to ride with one eye on the on-coming traffic and one eye in the mirror, so I wouldn't be shocked when a 'racer' came from behind to pass me in a curve. Seems most everyone feels the need to show how fast they can ride on this road, with little or no regard for the safety of others.
It's a miracle there have not been more deaths here, but there certainly has been hundreds of wrecks and injuries.... all of which require the police and the EMS workers to risk their well being as they clean up after some of these 'racers.'
If the THP are harassing anyone who is on a bike, that's not cool. But, if they are targeting the bikes running out of control, I have no problem with that.
That's my opinion of the Gap, and as Patrick Swayze said.....opinion's vary.
