Heck, the link has expired. I'm new here and was wondering if the Boss Hoss crowd could help me out. I've got a wild hair lately ( and I don't have many :P ) that's got me thinking I might be interested in buying one. I've been mulling over the financial landscape and have determined that new is a little too pricey. Even the MSRP on the small block is 5K more than I paid for my Lariat F150.
So.....assuming I'd like a windshield, touring seat/backrest what kind of price would really get your attention if you were in the market for a used small block BH. No offense to anyone, but really not interested in a trike. Saddlebags, fairing, special paint are all possibilities but not required.
I've seen prices from the high teens for a 1999 to mid 30's for a 2004. Which year did the two speeds start? How many of these get built in a year? Are new bikes sold at MSRP or is there some negotiating room? How dependable is the Boss Hoss line. Do y'all do your own repairs and maintenance? (There are only two dealers in FL that I can find.) Is there any particular reason to shy away from a high mileage bike?
Sorry for being so long winded, but any and all comments are welcome. I'm just in a Boss Hoss mood lately.

I don't know what happened. Maybe I'm just bored. I honestly never thought about asking you a month ago. This is a new thing. Maybe the feeling will go away. I've never even sat on a Boss Hoss. For what it's worth , this is how I operate especially for major purchases. Once I get the idea in my head I more often than not act on it. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later. We'll have to see how this plays out.
To be honest, I've always liked being different. Three years ago owning an 1800cc v-twin was different, now......not always so different. I've got every accessory for my Retro and it's a great machine so I'm not sure where this longing is originating, but that promo video that Boss Hoss has on their web site is pretty compelling. It addresses a lot of the misconceptions folks have about a Boss Hoss like poor handling, too heavy, clunky, ugly, etc. I'm going to try and get a demo ride at Biketoberfest next month as long as I don't do anything rash in the meantime.

There is nothing wrong with any used Boss. A couple things for you to consider. Pre 1999 and 1999 Boss' will be single speed tranny, no reverse. I believe BH came out with the inverted front end on 2001 models. In 2003 BH changed the brake caliper/rotors to use Brembo set-up ... far better then previous Wilwoods in my opinion.
I would say the prices you mention would be average ... if the bike has super expensive paint, added chrome or engine work will drive the price up. They are all soooooo different it's hard to say what a good price is without talking a specific bike. The bike Lamont posted looks like a great deal to me ...
MSRP, I doubt you will find a new bike at any dealer being sold MSRP unless you order the bike. ALL dealer add paint and a few doo dads before they are sold so unless you order a new one bone stock doubt you'll find one. I visited the factory earlier this year, I was told less then 500 per year. Owning a Boss is probably not a good choice unless you like tinkering ... dealer support is scattered at best! Your lucky to have two dealers in your State, I'm hundreds of miles from my nearest dealer. Of course you build a relationship with a dealer and they are always helpful with phone support, comes in handy sometimes. There is also the V8 Board Lamont linked you too ... lots of helpful and experienced Boss guys over there!
Good luck - word to the wise, if your not ready to buy DO NOT ride one ...
Ed,
If ya got the itch, SCRATCH IT.... I say just go for it... you will get that ol ear-to-ear grin back and it wont go away...
Like VMan says, nothin wrong at all with any year BH.. I ended up with a 2000 model and the dealer ( Daytona BH) put on new Inverted forks and tripletree when I bought it. I'v done some maint work, some mod work ( Thanks LeMont, Ray, Patriot).. and this bike is turning into a part of me now... After 6 months, I am getting very used to the bike, its handling characteristics, and its inner workings... I am now feeling one with the bike...
Ed... let er rip... git er done!

It's getting pretty bad and you guys aren't helping. I drove 400 miles today up to Daytona and back to look at the Daytona dealership's inventory. Yes, I sat on a couple. No, I didn't ride one. Yes, I got a business card and some prices. Now I'm sitting at my computer well into the evening massaging the family finances trying to figure out a way. Heck, I've parts coming for my VTX I haven't even paid for yet! Choices, choices, choices. Food for the pets or a BH? Gas for the wife's car or a BH? Hygiene products for myself or a BH. Hmmm. I already took haircuts out of the budget when I bought the VTX. :)
Yogi,
I gotta meeting in Reston VA on the 22nd.... and gotta get back home on that friday.. so no can do, was thinkin of tryin to figger out how to swing it, since me and my boss are riding up there from Charlotte...

What insurance company does anyone use. I have two Hondas already with Progressive and their pricing is pretty good. Do you think Progressive would have a clue as to how to rate a BH? Are there any particular companies that are Boss Hoss friendly? The dealer guy said to expect insurance rates similar to auto rates, is that correct? Thanks all.

I have mine with State Farm and they are about the same price as they were with my Valkyrie.
