View Full Version : Update on my son Doug...

Well, I wish the news was a little more upbeat but unfortunately we have to deal with reality...Doug had his surgery yesterday (was delayed a day) and the damage was worse than originally thought...he will now permanently have wire mesh and screws holding the left side of his face together...and the floor of the eye socket had to be rebuilt using titanneom because when they opened him up the eye rolled back into the socket... and because they had to manipulate the eye itself there is some concern about his vision. Hi is very swollen, black blue and yellow but in reasonably good spirits...he has handled this whole thing extremely well. He was discharged home today with follow up and they say it will take at least 3 months for recovery.
Thanks again everyone for all your positive thoughts and prayers...they have meant allot and been much appreciated. After all, it could have been worse...he is alive and fully functional with all of his personality and brain power intact...for that I am thankful!

Thanks Steve. You guys are always i my thougts and prayers. My brother-in-law had similar damage from a sports injury, and now, nobody could tell it ever happened. Keep those spirits high. :D Hope they catch the scum that did it. It won't help you or your son, but it will make me feel better.

.....but very saddened by the news. Don't really know what to say except I'm sorry to hear that it's worse than origionally thought, and happy to hear it's not as bad as it could have been.
