the Holiday Inn Express in Oxford is about 20 miles from “Ground Zero”. Granted, you would have to come up and down the mountain to get from your room to Ground Zero….but this hotel is about the closest to the mountain. There are three other hotels right around the Holiday Inn Express in Oxford…those three being the Wingate, the Jameson, and the Sleep Inn. I’m just saying for those who don’t get a room or cabin or chalet…and don’t like camping (there is plenty of that to be had)….the closest major facilities…down the best roads….are in Oxford. Lineville has some small hotels…but it would only be a few miles closer….no better roads…and the hotels would not be as nice (ie, local yocal mom and pop places). I only bring this up, because as of today, there are no rooms, and the waiting list has 17 people on it.
To get to the Holiday Inn Express from Ground Zero, you’d take 281 north….a good road…though running thru the mountain curves. After about 12 miles, you’d take 431 north (you take a little quarter mile connection to get to that….it is county 131)…then on up 431 a few miles to 78…taking 78 west a few miles to the hotel.
Just a possible option if no rooms free up. Doubt if 17 rooms will open up!
