[b]Has anyone on this board been an accident victim on their bike ... hit by a car/truck?

Just curious. I was hit 20 years ago ... 20 year old kid driving a pickup truck turned left right into me. He was blind (he said he didn't see me) I survived.

Like I said, I am just curious. :?:

I was backed up over several years ago. I thought that was a bit unusual. The guy never looked and had his radio so loud he didn't hear me beeping and yelling. There was a car behind me and nowhere to go.

I got hit about 2 months ago by an Idiot doing about 45 MPH. Lucky for me I was moving about 10 MPH or I wouldn't be writing this. http://bigbikeriders.com/photopost/data/500/34New_Valk_0081.jpg

I discovered that I have hypoglycemia the hard way. While riding my Blackbird, I passed out and kept it upright until I hit a stopped truck. Bad injuries, thought I was at fault. Then 5 months later, same thing, but I was uninjured and out for three hours. Three weeks later they checked my blood sugar. My blood sugar was dropping and I was passing out. Do not remember either of the wrecks.
Two months ago I hit a deer that ran out in front of me on the highway. The stupid deer stopped or I would have missed it altogether when I swerved. I did not go down, but the right side of the bike was a mess. Could been worse. :)
That is enouyh for me thanks.

Way back in 1976 I was stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso Tx and a Germany officer ran a red light on me as I was entering the intersection. Had just enough time to lay the bike down and slide into the side of his car. I was on a CB750 at the time with those big ugly crash bars that saved my legs. I was in field uniform with field jacket, gloves and helmet. Took about 3 weeks for all the black and blue marks to start going away. I was very luck, nothing broken, a little road rash but a whole lot of soreness in all my bones.

Back in 1982 I was reaended on the freeway :( I was on a XL 500 doing about 65 mph and a gal was looking at an accident on the other side of the freeway and she drove right up my bull. Thought that was going to be the BIG one but the Lord wasn't done with me yet. :D

The closest I have been was when I was 11 years old. Had a Honda 250 Dream. That's how I got to school and to work. One of the girls at school was behind me and bumped into my bike low speed. Not hurt and didn't go down.... but put a dent in my rear fender, and REALLY had me POed.

While living in Phoenix I was rear ended twice ... both SITTING at a stoplight :cus: The first time just knocked me over the second time it threw me into the intersection and banged me up pretty good.

I learned a lesson - to this day I NEVER take my bikes out of gear at a stop.

Back when I was young and foolish.
I was riding my first bike, brand new Honda S90. Commuting to school on Boston's SE Expessway. Traffic was crawling so I decided to do some lane 8) splitting, going about 30 MPH when suddenly a Volkswagon bus decided to change lanes directly into my path. I locked the brakes but couldn't stop in time as I hit him right in the drivers side door (still remember the look of surprise on the guys face  as I was propelled over the top of his van landing on the other side between the lanes of traffic. Came up limping, clothes ripped up, scrapes and bruises, but only could think about my bike. Several people ran over to me and all I could say was "my Dad's gonna kill me for wrecking my new bike." Pulled the fender away from the front tire, straightened my shifter peg and handlebars and rode her home. Didn't feel any pain till I got her back home, then I really felt all them bumps, sprains and bruises. Haven't split a lane since. That was almost 40 years ago, I swear back then I was made of rubber :D

Fall of 2002 I was heading north on 129 in southern Indiana and was hit head-on by another motorcycle. He came over a hill too fast and the road was sweeping to the right. He crossed over into my lane as I frantically tried to get over, but not to the point where I wanted to go in the ditch and barbed wire. Knew it was gonna happen anyhow and leaned her to the right and he hit me dead nuts the front left timing gear cover and glanced off to slide about 50 feet down the road with parts and pieces of his bike flying everywhere. I was knocked over on my right side and slid in the grass (thank god) for about 10 feet. My only injury was a deep cut on my left little finger knuckle as well as some bruises and bumps. He was not so lucky. Lost 1/2 his left foot and some major skin off his rump and arms. Same with his passenger. Tank tops, shorts and tennis shoes are not good riding gear and this is what they had on.
Troopers told me this is the first time they had dealt with that type of crash... 1 in a million. Just my luck I guess...

I've been riding for 33 years and have had bikes down several times, usually my stupidity. I have had three collision with autos and three collisions with deer in that time. The auto collisions were people pulling out in front of me on all occurrences. The deer jumped into my lane. The other wrecks were usually my fault when I thought that I had mastered the bike or showing off for girls, racing, etc....

I've been lucky and didn't sustain any permenant damage. Bikes and cars are many but this old body is but one..

Good luck and safe riding to ya,

I can't get over that statement: "I've been lucky and didn't sustain any permenant damage."

NO permanent Damage? hehehe

Had to say that brother, in brotherly love of course!

An accident "victim"? I've been my own worst enemy three times now. Twice with the Valk, once on a Bandit.. Never on the VTR. As if all the craziness......Wasn't me...All times going "relativily" slow. Doing some tight, technical roads. Going "just a hair" above the posted speed "guideline" and into the grass I go. :( Once with a fractured leg.....

You'd think I'd learn????

Back in the 70's I had this Suzuki 125 I raced motocross. I was on the way home, coming down US19 in Sandy Springs (GA) when the speed limit was still 55. Saw some friends and waved. When I looked up, there was a Pinto right in front of me. Seems she had just signed the papers on it and was leaving the Ford lot, making a left turn into traffic. I left the bike in the backseat of her car, and did one long lazy flip in the air (about 20 feet up, 50 feet down the road) and landed on my feet. Problem was I crushed the tank and broke the handlebar support with my left leg before I landed, so I didn't stay on my feet very long. First thing I remember hearing was someone shouting to turn off the motorcycle. It was still running and the inside of her car was covered in gas. It didn't catch fire thankfully. She came over and said "I didn't see you." Fortunately, there were a couple of policemaen directing traffic who did.

End result was no broken bokes, many a crushed muscle, a couple months on crutches, they fixed my bike and totaled her new car.

I won't tell what year this was but I was riding my 1935 HD 45cu side valve down a city street when a car turned left in front of me.
Having only one brake (the rear) I took the option of turning right with the rear brake locked up (classic "Ahnold" evading manuever back then).

Well I missed the car but was hopping on my right foot trying to get the ole Harley stopped but I couldn't reach the foot clutch on the left side (the well known suicide clutch). Since it was partly engaged, the bike didn't stall.

Eventually the bike got ahead of my hopping and I went down, but didn't get hurt. Too bad there wasn't someone there to record my antics on film.

Back when I was livin in California, near Riverside, I was on my way home from work and just about home, when I approached a 4-way stop interseciton.. A VW Bug was in front of me already stopped, so as I approached I started my normal braking... no slow... so I downshifted... no slow... so applied brakes a little harder.. my rear end started catching up with my front end... I was down to about 15mph when I smacked the Bug, bike went under, I went over top, face down looking into the windshield... I was not hurt, bike was pretty beat, only bent the Bug's left exhaust, ....

Now, here's the kicker.... a car before the both of us, had a leaky gas tank and had fuel all over a newly blacktop'd road.... may as well been ice.... no gription/sticktion at all.... ... anyway, the girl driving the car was with her dad... they were BOTH on way back from DMV where she got her LEARNERS permit and she was doing her first road trip... AAAUUGGGHH she freaked.... lol...

Anyway, nobody got hurt, Bike got beat up, we bent the tailpipe of the Bug back in place. We called cops, and HE got a ticket for letting his daughter get into a precarious situation ( ???.. never did figure that one out). Anyway, the city came out in about an hour and sanded and cleaned up the road ( about 500ft of it). I stayed there and warned other bikers of the hazard until cleaned up ( was RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER from my house.. ). Pushed the bike home.. sold it the next week to some other guy who wanted to fix it up ina hotrod ( Yamaha 750 Maxim...)...

Thats my story and I'm stickin to it....
